Solar energy inquiry.

WALT: explain how an alternative form of renewable energy generates electricity.
How can we prove solar energy is the best way to generate electricity in New Zealand?



You will write an explanation of how these forms of energy create electricity and how they are utilized in New Zealand – or around the world if they are not used in New Zealand.
From your big question, think of sub-questions to help you to answer your big question. Use graphic organisers to record these sub-questions and to record answers.
Decide on resources you will use to help locate the information – books, internet, families etc
Use keywords from sub-questions to help refine your search for information.
Remember your note-taking skills.
Use skimming and scanning techniques to help find information quickly.
Rewrite information into your own words using the sub-questions as sub-headings.

Start your inquiry by forming questions to lead your research. Use open questioning by using keywords and the 5 W’s. Use information gathered to write explanation. Refer to explanation success criteria from literacy for guidance and/or this one below:

SUCCESS CRITERIA
To make this project a success you must meet every criteria set below:
1. It must be completed by the due date (no extensions)
2. The information should answer the key question set out in the beginning
3. Information should be organized into paragraphs with sub-headings
4. There should be at least 3 graphics which relate to your chosen topic
5. The information should be written in your own words
6. You should use at least 2 different resources
7. The final report must be tidy, colourful, clear and well presented (watch out for those spelling mistakes!)
